Of Win Streaks, Sycophantic Websites And The Apocalypse E-mail

And the seventh Angel poured forth his bowl into the air. A loud voice came forth out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" -- Revelations 16:17

Seven in a row.  The last time an Ottawa Senators team enjoyed a winning streak better than this came in that glorious fall of aught-seven, when the boys won eight straight between the 13th of October and the 6th of November en route to a 13-1-0 start.

Oh how life was grand. Heady comparisons to the 136 point 1976 Habs abounded.  Women swooned.  Men lost their mindsAnd we all know how that ended.

And then I see this on the team's website:

With a seven-game winning streak currently in tow, this group has even started to invite comparisons with the 2006-07 Senators outfit that overcame a rash of injuries and rolled all the way to the Stanley Cup final.

Five points behind both the Pens, who we play tomorrow, and the Sabres (for the division lead, by the by).

Are we for real?  I have no idea anymore. But thank Christ I'm an atheist.  Otherwise, I might be a little worried.

2007 - I remember that year... oh what a tizzy the city was in. We won some games, drank some beers, and then got man-handled by a rough and tumble team names after a Disney flick. Man were we made to be bitches that year I tell you. Sorry... that was the Geritol talking.

Look, is this streak awesome? You betcha. What everyone seems to over look is that this team is still only 7-5 in its last 12. Obviously getting the Norse god himself back in the line-up helps, ditto for Giggles, and the Demon, but there need to be a sense of realism.

Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by down-on-their-luck Leaf fans, living down here in TO, but we need to stay grounded and consider things can't always be thus... Maybe we give Leclaire a start out of his new back-up role, and Belli gets a puck in the grill whilst chilling on the bench... you never know.. stuff like that happens in hockey all the time I hear... then what? THEN WHAT???

I hate to be the nay-sayer, as I defend this team every day, but while I'm excited, I wait with bated breath for the next major injury to a heart and soul guy, and then we hit the skids again for 5 or 6.

I know I'm usually the first to grab the pompoms and do the running man, but I've been suckered too many times before.

Kuba sucks.

MFP2 out!

MFP2: Outstanding, as always. I'm with you. I have no illusions as to the true "contender status" of this team. Absolutely none. But I am enjoying the shit out of watching them play.

And I'd pay good money to see you doing the running man with pom-poms.
what is going on, here?

Seriously. I don't get it. Even after Malkin scored, I knew we were going to win.

Yeah. That's... yeah.

Eight! EIGHT!!!!!! I think I'll be joining MFP2 doing the running man!

I've no doubt that we'll return to earth at some point, but MAN! It's good to see these wins.
